On my bird walk this morning at Archerfield Wetlands I was joined by Sam and Mum, and we saw some great birds!
First up were these raucous Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos:
And, also perched high, this Little Black Cormorant, a whole lot of Rainbow Lorikeets and a Dollarbird:
I’ve only been seriously birding for a few weeks but I think I’m getting a lot better at spotting birds now. That Dollarbird was up so high!
I was also stoked to spot this Brown Goshawk, a lifer!
And, of course, there were lots of gorgeous Brown Honeyeaters around:
We were lucky enough to spot the baby Laughing Kookaburra in its nest again. It must be a hungry little baby because its parents were hard at work hunting for its breakfast.
We also saw a group of Rainbow Bee-Eaters—in the second photo I think a male is in the middle of a mating display, which was fascinating to see.
We also spotted these gorgeous Red-Browed Finches (Firetails) darting around the branches:
The lagoon was home to Australasian Swamphens, as usual. Today the flowers had come out, which made for a very pretty view:
And Sam spotted these Magpie Geese somehow perching in branches that looked far too flimsy to hold them.
On the way back, we found these gorgeous Chestnut-Breasted Mannikins—handsome, quick little birds:
And I was really happy with this photo that I took of a Tawny Grassbird:
I’m feeling a lot more confident with my camera and I think it shows!
Of course we saw (and heard) lots of fairywrens, including Red-Backed Fairywrens and Superb Fairywrens. They’re always such a pleasure to spot.
Thanks for joining me today, Sam and Mum!
